Frequently Asked Questions

How does online tutoring work?

We will connect on Zoom and you’ll be given an ID that you will use each time we log on with each other.

I use Bitpaper for an interactive whiteboard.   We can both write on the screen, and upload questions, homework, etc.  It’s just like we are sitting together at the dining room table.

All you need is a computer connection, and then download Zoom and Bitpaper.  you will need an ipad or laptop/desktop with a mouse.  If you have an inexpensive graphics tablet (Huion or Wacom) then you can use a stylus pen to write numbers instead of the mouse.

how long will my child need tutoring?

The answer to this question depends on:

Closing gaps and mastering skills

With one on one tutoring kids can get the exact help that they need to close the gaps and gain confidence with their math skills.  Every child is unique.

Your goals

Does your child want to catch up to grade level?  Get an A?  Become the best in the class?

Learning Disabilities

If your child has been diagnosed with a learning disability, it will take more time than other kids. This is because it takes longer for things to go from their short term memory to their long term memory. In these cases, your child benefits from more repetition.

Consistency

Sometimes life gets in the way of students being able to show up for their tutoring sessions.

If students miss too many sessions, then it becomes harder to close the gap.
The more consistent we both are, the better results your child gets.

how long are your sessions?

It depends on the needs of your child.

For middle school students, a 50 minute session works best.

There are exceptions for children with learning disabilities, ADD, and ADHD. In which case, session time will be based on attention span.

how much does tutoring cost?

Tutoring costs $60 for a 50 minute one-on-one session.

Your child will have me, a qualified senior math teacher, as their tutor each session.

As an experienced math tutor and classroom teacher, I will help your child master math skills and gain confidence.
